چکیده

Supported sulfated zirconia catalysts with zirconia contents of 10, 20 and 50 wt% were prepared by impregnation of SiO2 and γ-Al2O3 supports with H2SO4/Zr(SO4)2 solutions followed by calcination at 923 K. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements, thermal analysis, UV–vis spectroscopy, and electron microscopy. Tetragonal zirconia was detected in all silicasupported samples but only in the 50 wt % zirconia-containing alumina-supported sample, indicating high dispersion of zirconia on alumina. Alumina-supported samples retained additional sulfate, at least in part as Al2(SO4)3. All samples were active in n-butane isomerization (1kPa nbutane, 378 K). There was no relation between the presence of tetragonal zirconia in these samples and the catalytic performance.

Manganese, iron and sulfur K edge XAFS of promoted sulfated zirconia catalysts.

Promoted sulfated zirconia samples were prepared by the incipient wetness technique to produce isomerization catalysts which were active for the conversion of n-butane to isobutane at 338K (up to 10% conversion of 1% n-butane, 1atm., 0.25 h(-1) WHSV). The local structure of Fe and Mn in promoted sulfated zirconia was investigated using fluorescence yield XAS. Spectra were taken of calcined samp...

Effect of Mn and Fe on the reactivity of sulfated zirconia toward H2 and n-butane: a diffuse reflectance IR spectroscopic investigation.

Sulfated zirconia (SZ) and sulfated zirconia promoted with 2 wt % manganese (MnSZ) or iron (FeSZ), all active in n-butane isomerization, were investigated using diffuse reflectance Fourier transform IR spectroscopy (DRIFTS). By adsorption of H(2) at 77 K or of n-butane at room temperature, it was found that the promoters neither enhance the Lewis nor the Brønsted acid strength. SZ and promoted ...

CATALYTIC REFORMING OF n-HEPTANE ON PLATINUM-TUNGSTEN SUPPORTED ON GAMMA-ALUMINA

The mono-metallic and bi-metallic catalysts have been prepared by impregnating with solutions containing a compound of H2PtCl6,WO3 and 1ml HCl (0.1 mol). It should be noted that the catalysts’ activity and selectivity have been determined under these conditions : 450-5000C ,and 15-25atm by H2. For converting n-heptane , the molar ratio H2/C7H16 is 5 , and LHSV is 1.5ml/h. It has been proved tha...

In Situ Spectroscopic Investigation of Activation, Start-Up and Deactivation of Promoted Sulfated Zirconia Catalysts

Sulfated zirconia (SZ), unpromoted and promoted with 0.5–2.0 wt% Mn or Fe, was investigated by in situ IR and UV–vis spectroscopy during activation at 723–773 K and interaction with n-butane at 298–323 K. During start-up of the catalysts, the isomerization rate increases with the amount of water that is being formed, consistent with an activation of n-butane via oxidative dehydrogenation. Sulfa...

Characterization of Catalysts in Their Active State by Adsorption Microcalorimetry: Experimental Design and Application to Sulfated Zirconia

A method to characterize the surface sites of catalysts in their active state by adsorption microcalorimetry was developed. A calorimeter cell was used as a flow-type reactor, and the skeletal isomerization of n-butane (1 kPa) at 378 K and atmospheric pressure proceeded at comparable rates and with the same states of induction period, maximum and deactivation phase as in a tubular reactor. The ...
